The Hew Saw mill is on the leading edge of small log saw milling. Here are some great pictures.

Logs that have been sorted to the same diameter and length are placed on the in-feed deck.

They are debarked at the mill, inline to the hew saw system.

After debarking the log then goes through the in-feed system which rotates the log to optimize recovery.

12 feet after the log enters the hew saw machine it comes out the other side as rough green lumber.  The pattern below is a 3 - 2x4 pattern.  The rest of the log has been turned into high quality chips.

Here is a picture of a 2 - 2x6, 2 - 2x8 cutting pattern. An entire shift is usually spent running the same cutting pattern while changing lengths once or twice throughout the 8 hour shift. This leads to an efficient high production and high quality operation.
